When boats go missing here they often wind up in Honduras.

CrackerLarry: it is not a question of your ability to operated a boat safely in these waters, it is the experience of those here that 99% of the people who come here cannot. That does not lend itself to a successful business of renting boats. Therefore no boats to rent. It is also the belief of the Belizean people that tourists who come here should hire Belizeans for those services. They look at it that if you were to do "your own thing", that is one less job for a Belizean. Come and enjoy Belize as a tourists, but keep your captains license in your billfold.

Bywarren speaks with common sense and long experience. Jesse, too. But good luck, Larry, on finding a boat rental now and on your business concept for the future!

Quite a few folks who visit Belize for the first time or two come initially with a lot of "this is how it should be done."

Belizeans have heard it all, many times over, and they know very well what will work and what won't.

Now those are two reasons that make perfectly good sense. I'll do just that, and take your good advice. Thanks. Stroke, stroke ,stroke, stroke...

My brother-in-law looked into this a few years back, wanted the ability to go fishing as much as he wanted. He was basically told everywhere he looked that the powerboats that were available were all someones bread and butter, and nobody in their right mind would rent one to a person that didn't know the waters, pretty much regardless of their experience. These aren't big corporations with lots of boats and insurance.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt
