Racing that day introduced the young skippers to the experience of having the wind come from behind the island instead of from beyond the reef. That didn't seem to matter to them nearly as much as did concentrating on understanding the relationship between sail and wind, regardless of wind direction. There were a few struggles rounding buoys as a result, but fewer than in previous races. Some skippers with very little previous time on the water raced, and one even capsized while experiencing the "wind/sail relationship." She was brave and laughed about it, though. And other kids kayaked to her aid; although she knew and remembered how to right the boat by herself. It's always good to get that first capsize out of the way early in your sailing career!
