TWO MEN DETAINED FOR ROBBERY OF DELIVERY TRUCK

Police have detained two persons, including a 17 year old boy in connection with the armed hold up of a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck which took place on Friday afternoon on the Stann Creek Valley road. Thirty three year old Hermain Solis, an unemployed resident of Middlesex Village and a 17-year old boy are detained by Dangriga police pending the outcome their investigations. Police say that around 3:30 on Friday afternoon, armed men held up a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck that was enroute to Dangriga from St. Margaret's village. They reportedly stole $300 from the driver/salesman Jaime Salguero. The bandits then reportedly shot open the cash pan open and took the day's sale which amounted to seven thousand dollars. Police say the bandits attacked the truck as it slowed down at a speed bump in front of the Middlesex Primary School at mile 25 on the Hummingbird Highway. Three persons dressed in black clothing and wearing masks emerged from the bushes and reportedly fired shots in the direction of the vehicle shattering the windshield. A Police Superintendent who was passing at the time took fire from the gunmen; but they were able to make good their escape in a nearby orange orchard.
