How To Make Belizean Salbutes
When we went to Belize in 2013 with the family for vacation, my Uncle Roger's girlfriend Miriam taught me how to make Salbutes.

It's sorta like a taco, but with a unique sauce or salsa that's made by shredding green cabbage and mixing it with diced tomatoes, cilantro picked from the stems and Italian dressing. It's always easy to make this dish if you have leftover Belizean stewed chicken that you can pick from the bone. This dish can be made with ground beef or carne asade too.

I use masa for tortillas and add baking powder, salt, recado (annatto) and all-purpose flour to make the base for the salbutes. After frying in deep oil, I top with the chicken, cabbage salad and grated Dutch cheese or Parmesan cheese.
