My experiences in caving/tubing have all been done on the mainland with Ian Anderson/Caves Branch - all day events.

I just can't imagine ( but tons of people do it, so maybe I'm all wet here, no pun intended)spending so little time in the caves/rivers. Much time is spent traversing the waters between AC and the mainland and then trekking onto the caves. I'm not trying to diss all the AC operators at all....they're all great and do a marvelous job. I just personally think there's a better way to do it.

Soph...many people spend a couple days on the mainland and then move on to the caye after doing the tours.
It's a good way to begin the journey and see more of Belize.
The caye and the mainland are so different.

Would love to but we don't have much time and we're already booked. So it's just a day tour for us.

NYGal- you in New York? I'm in Manhattan.

So the general concensus is a Lamani trip or the Ian Anderson Cave tubing??

cool Lamanai, definitely!

frown No, to the candy! The kids already get too much sugar. School supplies (for the RC public school) or books for the library.

Enjoy your trip

Don't worry... No tourists or cruise ships on AC. Just friendly people and the biggest boat you'll probably see will seat about 12 and take you from AC to Bomba (pop about 25) on your way to Lamanai or Altun Ha. I recommend Lamanai, btw... a real adventure!

Soph, you surely don't need a mosquito net at the Xanadu. It just looks rustic, behind all that thatch is an insulated concrete geodesic dome complete with window screens and air conditioning.

I'd take the Lamanai trip with Daniel (Tanisha Tours). Best day we spent!

Got back two days ago and never saw a mosquito or biting bug the entire week we were there. Another vote for Lamanai.

You are going to love it there. I already miss it and want to go back.

Woo Hoo! No mosquitos sounds good. How about the infamous pica pica? Any in sight? (Or in bathing suit?)
