I always thought it was against the law to bring meat from the USA to Belize?? I also thought about bringing meat to Belize. It would be nice to enjoy a nice big fat steak while in paradise at the beach.

You can buy very good steaks here you just need to be selective where you go.

I had a very good steak at Stained Glass Pub when we were there in February. It was one of the specials that evening. smile

Pedro's Bistro makes a very nice tenderloin.

Lino's Meats sells some very high quality tenderloin, the whole loin, for a reasonable price. Good eating.

I have the SF filets grilled once a week and they are great! They are getting harder to come by. She now has a waiting list for them since you only get so many tenderloins on a side of beef.

Leave the dog at home and eat the local foods, for crying out loud it's Belize not your Aunt Irma in Iowa you're visiting!

The problem with local mest is that as the cows are grass fed, the fat levels are less than required.

Tenderisation is the key. Papaya skins contain Papin, which is a flavourless meat tenderiser.

By spending a little time wrapping the steaks in papaya skin and ageing the meat you can actually produce a very good product here. It just requires a liuttle effort that's all.
