Amen Barbara K! So true. Everyone (the residents)that we encounterd there were friendly and extremly helpful. Such as when we rented a golf cart and went touring SP, once when we stopped and were checking out the tires, we had a local gentleman stop and ask us if we needed any help. (I had a flat on my truck in the small town where I live and 4 vehicles passed me by and didn't even stop!) Also, on the north end of SP we were splashing through some rather large mud holes when we got stuck! 2 of the local kids helped us push it out and we gave them a lift back into town. Granted, there are good people everywhere as well as the "snippy" group. Form your own judgements. You will enjoy SP and it's people.

OZARKSDIVER - Ditto - Those were my sentiments exactly at one time. Like you, after I booked our Belize trip, I found this board and was so disappointed, I almost changed our destination. Thank goodness I didn't!

I have to tell you, do not let this board influence your expectations of what Belize is like. There's no comparison. (It might be an attempt to keep people away from this little island gem.) This board is not even close to being a reflection of the people of Belize.

I have been to many Carib. islands also and NONE of them hold a candle to Belize! The hospitality is unbeatable. NO COMPARISON.

In fact, when recommending Belize to friends, family and acquaintances, I don't even tell them about this message board until after they return so as not to give them a sour taste before even getting there.

Please do come back and give us a trip report after your fabulous trip!

That's too bad that you feel that way... if and when you do go, you will have to opportunity to make your own opinon about the island!

I must say i was there for a month and aside from the rare upside (like everywhere in this world the island is not perfect...) I fell in love with it... If you are willing to meet wonderful people you will but if you bring negative energy and comments that is what will most likely come your way...

You can only make the best for what is in front of you and make your own experiences yours. You will discover for yourself whether you like it or not... But one thing for sure, i had no idea what to expect from SP and i still fell in love it and the people! I hope all goes well for you and that you do enjoy your trip!

I have only been on the island once and for only 10 days. Not only did I not have one problem with anyone but never saw anyone have a problem. AC/SP is the most friendly place I have ever been.

ozarksdiver - something I realized soon after joining the board is that it's like a family. Some relatives you don't particularily like, some you love, some you squabble with, some you tease and have fun with, and so on. What they all have in common, is a love for San Pedro and everything it offers. When there's a problem with a local or another boarder, they're the first ones to step up and help. Stick around, you'll see what I mean. The mentality of the folks here IS different than the mentality of the island, but bottom line, they're both a blast!

Novascotianuts, that is just the perfect way to describe this board. A family. Disfunctional as can be, but still a family. A family is like a box of candy...some soft ones, some hard, and some nuts. I think we have it all right here!
