I think Grammy was saying that withholding information (IE skirting around the truth) can be as bad as a lie. Like as in the famous Slick Willys "I did not have sex with that women." It was a truthful statement according to Slick's definition of sex, but he was obviously skirting around a secret while at the same time trying not to commit perjury.

Not all secrets are all lies. Remember 4th grade: "bobby likes mary" that's secret and not a lie... "bobby screwed mary" is a secret and probably a lie. "I never had sex with that woman" was a secret until billy got caught and it was a lie.

Keeping a secret isn't a lie, unless the secret contains a lie and you repeat it... are you guilty of telling a lie then or are you an unwitting accomplice. If you were instructed to keep this a secret and you broke it, even if it contained a lie then you are guilty of only repeating the secret, not knowing it contained a lie.
