Your a resident from America aren't you? wouldn't you like to have your opinion count for something? oops thats not a personal attack.

The last general elections (2003) also coincided with town council elections in San Pedro. I was able to vote in both. Again, I'm Commonwealth not American so it may be different.

I think about everything from many different angles/perspectives.

I believe if the Gringo's wanted to vote they would figure out whether or not it were a possibility and then be the first in line at election time.

The local government is not completely San Pedrano, and hasn't been for many years. The local reps continually seek advice from many different residents on the island, including meeting with non-San Pedro born islanders.

I have been approached a few times to consider running for town council, but I am not in a position to run at this time. Maybe in a decade or so, when the kids are grown.

San Pedranos are not as closed minds as some would like to believe.

'American residents, Amanda, not 'Gringos' That word isn't necessarily racist but real close.I wouldn't want this to be a foot ball game type of thing with Gringos on one side and Pedranos on the other.I think that informing American Residents in Belize of the ability to vote on issues governing their lives and making it convenient to register and vote, will swamp the poles with voters,and politicians will respond to those who voted for them. Electing someone not influenced by the nepotistic problem is an even better answer.
San Pedranos are not closed minded , no one on the board said that, its a problem of influence and ineffectiveness from that influence.

Commonwealth or CARICOM citizens wjho are residents in Belize can vote in general elections, but have to be here for, I think, at least 6 months. I'll call the former head of Elections and Boundaries. but residents can vote in San Pedro town council elections, that I know. but not general elections.

If Gringo is such an offensive word, why do we enjoy listening to Just another Gringo in Belize by JJW and Dennis Wolfe?

Tom Vidrine and Ambergrs Caye Chamber of Commerce worked on and resolved this issue a few years ago.


When you say American's do you include All Americans? Mexicans, Hondurans, Salvadorans etc? Or just USA citizens?

I got an email off to Tom asking for the answer.
I also found a # for the Elect.and Bound. Comm. in San Pedro 226-2220 but haven't been able to get the phone answered yet.
I know were all Americans, South, Central and North. I'm talking about the US variety.especially the thousands holding a residency card in Belize and living on our fair Island that might vote if they know they can and how to register.

We'll start another topic about ethnic and racial names later. I truly love the subject and some day hope to have a complete list of all of them for all races and ethnic groups used through out history with a search engine for us to look up what they are called today and what we where called a decade ago and last century. wouldn't that be cool. I'm a WASP, ever heard of that group? Thats where I got this long skinny nose, Its supposed to be a design that warms cold air that I breath in the log nostril so that I will have less respiration problems in the cold environment that my WASP relatives evolved in.....so what the heck am I doing in the tropics?

Amanda, I would like to add my 2 pennies here. Americans are citizens. If they originated in Mexico, Honduras, China, anywhere else, but got their citizenship, they are indeed AMERICANS. If they are here simply to live off of the system, are not giving back to the society, are not making attempts to do good for the country, then, they are NOT americans.
I would hope the same would apply to any country that allows others to take up residence there. If they are truly interested in bettering themselves and giving back to the society that attracted them there, they should be given the chance to become a citizen. Once they are a citizen, they belong to that country.
I hope this doesn't start a "board riot" but we are all way too sensitive when it comes to descriptive names. We are all members of the human race, lets be proud of it.
