Encouraging update on Denny.
I had a call from his sister Darlene tonight. She just today found the pages of well wishes Gay & I left from the message board on Friday night with our phone numbers. She asked that I tell everyone how moved & grateful they were.
While he is still not speaking, his eyes are open, he follows everyone with them and today when they arrived he was sitting in a chair. The feeding tube which was down his nose has been moved to his side for more comfort. While he still has the trach he is breathing on his own.
They read him all the message board info today and he seemed pleased. He even kicked his sister today which is a good sign.
They played with his left foot and he reacted. They asked him to give a thumbs up if he felt something and he did. When they told the "not so nice/unfriendly nurse today that he was improving and had feeling she said no it was just a reflex. They convinced her to try and after she screamed at him, "Mr. Shane, if you can feel this give me a thumbs up", he gave her a thumbs down. That's our Denny. I'm sure he would have said ugly words if they could only come out! LOL
His sister is sad they have to leave on Wed. and that their parents will be happy to know so many people care and are praying.
He will be moved tomorrow or Wednesday to Kindred Hospital on Main Street for rehab. I promised to visit and said others would too and that we would keep in touch and let them know his progress.
The power of prayer and love is amazing. Let's keep it up.
