Do you have to actually stay in the country for the full year? Can't leave at all?

On this last election on Caye Caulker they would not accept just a passport you had to have a voters card.

You can leave for no more than 14 days total over the year. They make you photocopy your passport with the application.

I could be mistaken but it is easier to gain Belizean Citizenship if you have at least one parent who is a native of Belize even though you are American born or of another nationality. Through my parent I am able to have both citizenships. Which does not take long.

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. You are entitled to have the priviledge to vote as a commonwealth citizen after living here full time for 6 months (proven by passport entries) but you must also be a registered voter. You need to register at some point after you have completed your 6 months of full time residence.

Different rules for different places I guess, my replacement voters card didn't come through so they accepted my passport without question.

But if you were waiting for a replacement card it simply means you are on the rolls and have a voter id number - you just don't have your card. Your name has to appear in the rolls for you to vote - if you are registered any photo id will suffice.

Was assuming that if they were trying to vote that they were registered. There was enough advertising pre-election that you had to register that I didn't think anyone would just try to walk in and vote with a passport.
