Hi Texasman,

Dolphins are sighted all along the coast of San Pedro from time to time. The beaches I frequent are down south. The dolphins probably chase the predatory fish that chase sardines and certainly I normally saw dolphins when sardines were plentiful.

Dolphins seem to know exactly when you need to see them though, so predictions are very difficult. Most of my sightings have been early in the morning.

If you go on any tours or boat outings you may see them too. It is so exciting to have a pod of dolphins swim along side your boat. Good luck and have a wonderful time.

Thanks, Are stay is at ramones but we are VERY early risers and plan on doing some morning walks also. Hey maybe we'll get lucky. I just know if my wife see's them out there she will be sprinting out to sea to swim with them.

It's pretty safe to swim within the piers at either location. I would NOT recommend swimming out past the end of the piers - that's where you will encounter more boat traffic.

Barbara - Didn't you mean NOT awim out past the end? I think you can edit it to say that.

Wow... collyk you said what my wife and I feel when in SP. We truly enjoy walking up and down the beaches everyday too. Someday, one day, we hope to live next to one of those beaches.

Ok now you all have raised my expectations of Ambergris beaches so high that now I may be disappointed smile I was originally imagining ambergris Caye to have a rocky coast-line with almost no sand to lay a towel on, and a mangrove infested shore line that would make off-the-shore snorkelling difficult. Now you all have described it as a paradise where white-sandy beaches await my arrival, and dolphins will cary me on their backs. Haha... so, now any subsuquent disapointment will rest squarely on your shoulders wink

Honestly though, thanks for all the good information I am looking forward to my trip, which begins next Wednesday - - see you all soon.

The whole island is sand! It's just that some of it is covered by buildings. LOL Other people actually plant grass to covert up the sand. Take off your shoes and go for a walk.
