In Aug, I was talking with a realtor and he told me of some giant commercial land baron from Canada that had purchased 1200 acres and so forth.

Did anybody say this development would be occuring in this lifetime?

It will take an INCREDIBLE amount of money to build and maintain a golf course on the west coast of Ambergris Caye - in fact anywhere on Ambergris Caye.

I haven't seen an approval for a development that includes a golf course being issued on Ambergris Caye... yet.

Chances are any tall buildings being built on west Ambergris will be 3 or 4 storeys tall. Most development built to date in that area is 2 storeys tall.

The electricity has run across the lagoon but it will take considerable funding to run it up the coast. Currently the power plan is sufficient to service the existing structures and the area directly opposite the San Pedro town core.

Thats odd, why would he say what he did? He was talking million dollar homes and condos w/a large named hotel ( don't remember which) and was getting 5 major developers to commit to large parcels and to begin construction within 3 years.

Don't recall the name but was at realty office across from Tropic and a bit south. I was killing time and went in to BS about AC.
Maybe Coldwell Banker ???

Went bonefishing instead. Next time I'm invited I'll turn it down to go diving, or sailing. It's not just that Belize and golf shouldn't go together; the runoff from a golf course cannot be good for the reef.

Besides, seeing how difficult it is for foreign interests to build or develop, a project of the scale mentioned would be next to impossible. Thank goodness. I like the barriers that were put into place with independence. Belize gets to do things their way, not the US way or the British way or the *shudder* Canadian way.

Just kidding, eh!

I hope that someday we can put aside our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

If every wild development "story" thats been told in the last few years came to fruition, the island would need to be 25 times larger!
