I called and was told Miss Monsanto is the Environmental Officer dealing with South Beach Belize. I was told she will be available later this afternoon on the numbers listed above.

Dear Mr. Alegria,

As a property owner on Ambergris Caye, I'm appalled that the D.O.E. will not issue a stop order to South Beach Development even though you know they are in violation of the law by not complying with the Environmental Compliance Plan.

Apparently the developer has chosen to ignore posting a $250,000 bond prior to commencement of development activity. When the mainstream media gets involved, and they will, organizations like World Heritage & the Audubon Society will think twice before bringing any money or grants to Belize.

This developer has a record of ignoring the law. A good example is the nine un-permitted buildings at Reef Village. As a respected official, I believe it is time for you to show the good people of Belize that you truly care for the environment.

I am a proponent of the Master Plan - with it in place as law the current South Beach debate would be mute.

The development of the South Beach project will be 'the straw that broke the camel's back' for Ambergris Caye.
For thousands of years Anbergris Caye has survived because the people who lived there did not abuse the land, the sea or the reef....people who have lived there were in harmony with the enviornment; this is no longer the case. Now it's all about the $$.......and I am not against 'good and thoughtful development'
South Beach will destroy the land, the mangroves and the reef. The high density of people will contribute to this destruction as well......
Jeff Pierce and his greedy colleagues, such as that slob of a Canadian architech, who are throwing money at anyone who will help their cause, will pay the price.
When their kids become drug addicts or alcoholics, or their family members contract fatal diseases, or get in tragic accidents, they will ask why me ?
Jeff and his scummy friends are the exact same type of people who have caused the Global Econoic Crisis. They should be run out of Belize !
I would bet my life savings that if Jeff and his colleagues never earned another dollar for the rest of their lives, that they would have more than enough to live on.......

hey elbert - how much are the t-shirts, and how can i get one? i'll be down in a few weeks.

I bought them at the meeting 20 Bzbucks each. I don't know who's selling them now.
Hea maybe you could organize a wet t shirt contest for the 'Stop South Beach' cause, all you posters could raise some bucks for a good cause. The shirts are white cotton , that always makes for a good wet t shirt :-)

They are also looking for contributions which can be dropped off at the Hol Chan office or at SeaDuced office in the Vilma Linda Plaze center. That is the purple building across from the Roman Catholic school.
