Peter, I guess you didn't read that I got robbed on my way to Tacklebox from Central Park and it was only 8:30 pm. That said, I suspect a person(s) would normally be fine at that time of night, but between Belize Yacht Club and Crazy Canuk's there's still a bit of a mess and an unlit area, isn't there?

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

I will try to not walk alone late at night, but last time I was there I never really thought about it. Of course, it was October and all the thiefs were taking the low season off. Thanks for the replies everybody.

I would like to know the details of this event. My 17 y/o and 13 y/o sons will be on the island in June with friends. We always let them walk around in town alone and have never feared for their safety.

Please share the details of this event in order for readers to be aware of what can happen. Weapon? Exact location? Injuries? One assailant or more? Arrest made? Escape mode?

Thanks

I'm curious as to why no one has started a rickshaw taxi service here? Much more fun, No noise, no pollution and the unemployed can get work and stay fit!

We did have a rickshaw business here for a while. It was back in the mid '90s I think.

By far the absolute most unpleasant thing in San Pedro are the extremely rude, very aggressive and unsafe driving speed taxi van drivers on the island. They ride dangerously close to your tail while biking or on cart. They are constantly blowing their horn at you and scaring the crap out of you. And if your on foot in town you have to say "no thanks" about a billion times to all one billion of them.

I know they are "just trying to make a living" but they can make a living using cart taxis instead of vans! Rickshaw would be even better.

The above is a generalization and certainly does not apply to ALL taxi van drivers. I accept that some of them may be courteous and safe drivers the problem is I just haven't seen or ridden with any of the safe ones on the island.
