Helicopter has made it to the site, which should finally speed recovery efforts. It's sad and sober evening on the island indeed. Condolences to all affected.

We are so very sad for Barry's family. Also very worried about who died with him.

A plane crash on San Pedro late this evening has claimed the life of businessman and former Senator Sir Barry Bowen. Reports are the plane went down just south of the Municipal airstrip on the island, in a marshy area around five thirty this evening. Reports from the island are that Bowen was reportedly being accompanied by three other people including a child, all of whom perished in the crash. Unconfirmed reports are that among the dead is at least one employee of Mr. Bowen who was on the way to a fund raising event to be hosted by the bottling magnate on the island. According to information to the RSV Media Centre, the plane apparently suffered some kind of mechanical problems, clipped a building that is under construction and flipped over onto its back. Sir Barry Bowen we are told, would daily pilot his private plane to San Pedro, where he resides. Police have cordoned off the area around the crash site and authorities are now in the process of retrieving the casualties.

This is terrible news and a sadness for all of Belize.
Our prayers are with Sir Barry Bowen and all of his family.
Just talked to some of our extended family, some who live n the DFC where the plane went down. The report is not fact but believed to be true that it was Barry's plane with one of his sons and the son's wife and child on board. There were no survivors and hit a building under construction.
The report is that they were arriving for the Luau Party at the Island Academy and that they were waiting for them to arrive.
Our sympathies go out to all of the teachers and students at The Island Academy as well.

Have heard from a reliable source that the passengers were a teacher from Gallon Jug, her husband, and their two small children. Such a tragedy.
