Ernie, I'm with Kerry and the rest on this. Sure, every kid deserves a chance, but Derrick has worked his ass off for his and he can be an inspiration to the rest. You may have a philosophical issue with it, but compassion is any form is worthwhile. Show a little and might reflect back on you, to your advantage. And if you can't, allow us to.

I have more compassion in my little finger for the unfortunate kids in San Pedro, than I do for my own kids. Good luck on the fund raiser.

Really E? Lots of people do wonderful things for the kids of San Pedro... this is one of them. I wish Derrick the best with this great opportunity! He is a great kid and deserves it!

I know Im beating the dead horse, but do you know what $8,000 will do for the island ? Pay for over 1000 lunches that kids would not other wise have, assist the Holy Cross school and the RC school with supplies, food, books. A lunch room , a library, uniforms etc. Perhaps Im the one who has lost their vision. I hope not.

Ernie, next time you want to come down here why don't you instead donate the airfare and all the other costs to local charities? You might sleep better at night and I'm sure many people here would be very grateful to you.

Perhaps we could petition for Derrick to become Belize's Music Ambassador instead of the waste of space recently announced. Once Derrick gets to Berklee he will have achieved more than any Belizean has ever before achieved in the arena of music. HE would be a worthy role model.

While attending Berklee's Summer program is a great accomplishment for anyone, including a Belizean, it is not the biggest achievement of any Belizean musician.

Andy Palacio won many prestigous awards, including BBC's best world music album 2008. Lord Rhaburn toured all over the world representing Belize, including playing at The World Fair in 1981 the year of Belizean Indepenence. Also people like; Francis Reneau, Tanya Carter , Sam Harris, Mr. Peters , Titiman Flores (played Lincoln Center) Etc...All have some very big international accolodes.

For a Belizean from San Pedro it's probably the biggest achievement...
