Dia de San Pedro Celebrated

Dia De San Pedro was celebrated after a week's delay, but it was worth the wait as entertainment came from all over to join San Pedranos in the festivities.
After a grand fireworks display on Friday night, there was some dancing and singing, followed by the second annual Karaoke competition, which was won by Valentino Caliz.
On Saturday night, it was Belizean Culture at its Best!! With fabulous performances by the Yo Creek Uch-Ben Ok-ot (Old/Traditional Dance) Dance Group, Belize National Dance Company and Super Furia Band from Orange Walk.

Sunday's Fishing Tournament was cancelled, but the evening's events were back in full swing with more performances by the San Pedro Dance Company, Natalie Arceo, a surprise Cultural Show by a Mexican Dance Group and capped off with the fabulous stylings of Banda Cubana. All in all, the weekend was a great success, and hats off to the organizers for pulling off such a great event. Feliz Dia de San Pedro!!

Feliz Dia de San Pedro

While the Dia de San Pedro festivities were delayed by a week, the fun was on in full force as only San Pedranos know to celebrate. Fireworks, cultural dances and live music, all was available for the enjoyment of those who were at Saca Chispas field on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Held in honor of San Pedro's Patron Saint Peter, Dia de San Pedro celebrates past community accomplishments and looks forward to future achievements. The religious aspects of the celebration were held on schedule on Monday, June 28th and Tuesday, June 29th, but then July 2nd through the 4th, it was time for the happy, public celebration.

Friday night showcased a wonderful fireworks display, which started off the party with (literally) a bang. Elina Palma sang onstage, followed by dances by Barbara's Dance Group, and the highlight of the night: the second annual Dia de San Pedro karaoke competition.

15 singers sang their favorite melodies, crooning and delighting the crowd in attendance. In the end, Valentino Caliz topped out the 15 singers to take the crown of Karaoke King 2010. He took home $500 cash and a commemorative t-shirt. The remaining four finalists also took home cash prizes and t-shirt. The first 10 eliminated after the second round did not go home empty-handed, as they were also gifted with a commemorative t-shirt.

Saturday night was a night for culture. The Belize Dance Company, Yo Creek's Uch-ben Ok-ot dance group, and Super Furia Band provided a taste of Belizean culture for everyone's enjoyment.

Sunday's fishing tournament was cancelled due to particularly rough seas, but the evening events carried on as scheduled, with the ever energetic San Pedro Dance Company, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico and a smashing performance by Natalie Arceo. The evening was then capped off with the sounds of Banda Cubana. All in all, it was an entertaining weekend with rides for the children and those young at heart, music and dancing for those looking to indulge in their own moves, and for those content to enjoy stage shows, plenty for the eyes to feast on. Feliz Día de San Pedro a todos San Pedranos! Que Viva San Pedro!
