If any one has a kiln, I have seen some very cool trays or plates made from partially melted wine or beer bottles. Belikin ones would be a great unique souvineer. Sturdy and don't take up much space in a suitcase.

I'll be back down in December and can bring you the bottle cutting/polishing (and even the etching) kit if you want. They're pretty fun.

Oh my - am I the only one who is so old that when I hear about the cut-the-bottle for a drinking glass kit I feel nostalgia. Seriously folks, that was just about he only kind of glassware around at one time - well, for some of us. I feel the urge for a lava lamp coming in.
