I miss the good ole days before government interference in the economy when a 6 year old child could work in a coal mine for 15 hours a day 6 days a week, and generally died before 25 working for 10% of what an adult made. No paid vacations, no minimum wage, extremely dangerous work conditions, no compensation for work related injuries, 6 day work week 12 hour days, woman making unfair wages etc... Man that was awesome!

Actually a lot of folks these days believe the government's only role should be to protect individual liberty.

A large portion of our military forces in Afghanistan/Iraq right now are private contractors. Many people don't want the government setting environmental regulation at all(safe air, water, land.) and believe our roads, schools, and other public infrastructure should all be leased out to private for profit businesses.

jhill, our political idealisms are so diametrically opposed that your comment does not even barely warrant a response. But since I am in the mood, here is a long answer. If you want all the taxes and socialism crap that the Obama adminisration is trying to implement, then have at it. I would rather keep my hard-earned money, you can give yours to the government! How is that for "whining?"

Like I have said, keep an eye on the expiration of the 2001 and 2003 tax relief expirations, and the results of same: here are just a few: itemized deductions and personal exemptions will phase out, income tax rates will rise (the top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent, which is also the rate at which 2/3 of small business profits are taxed - how is that going to create jobs?), all rates in between will rise, higher taxes of marriage and family (the child tax credit will be cut in half, dependent care will be cut), the return of the Death Tax (55 percent on estates of over $1 million). The kicker: higher taxes on savers and investers: capital gains tax goes from 15 to 20 percent, dividends tax goes up.

Now we get to Obamacare: There are over 20 new and higher taxes under this: caps on flexible spending accounts, taxes for special needs children. And worse yet? your health insurance will be income on your W2. Anyone who backs this administration would probably be astonished if they actually read the terms of Obamacare. This is how the government is going to "buy" insurance for anybody and everybody! I will site relevant revenue provisions of this bill, should you require proof.

Finally, how about that idiot Pelosi: proposal to tax all financial transactions with your bank at the amount of 1%?

The tax on your bank account will include; all deposits, withdrawals, checks written, transfers, etc,etc

No, they want all of these things they just don't want to pay for them. It always cracks me up when people of this political persuasion imply that they are the only ones that work and pay taxes yet when it comes to needed sevices they want the free ride. Wish I had the time to go on but I have to get back to work so I can pay my share of taxes to provide for the afore mentioned freeloaders.

Obama's aunt was on TV yesterday. She has been in the U.S. illegally for years, living off welfare (i.e. the government), in Boston. She said point blank to the reporter: the U.S. government is supposed to take care of me and all of the poor people.

While people take advantage of social welfare and our free education system, the VAST majority of our tax money goes towards the military. (60%) And alot of that spending is not neccesary.

Also each tax payer pays 3 times as much for CORPORATE welfare as opposed to SOCIAL welfare. So keep things in perspective, yes the left may ask for too much to fund healthcare and such, but giving money to those in need seems better then using money to to fund wars of choice, which result in many innocent people dieing, and also creates more enemies towards the US thus a perpetual war which keeps the alot of the corpocracy making money and in business.

Uncle Buck beat me to it. Do you know how many crazy aunts could live a lifetime in the projects of south Boston on the money we spend in one day in Afghanistan? No one likes to see the system abused but you better believe this abuse is not limited to the poor. Does Haliburton ring a bell?
