The eye is passing just north of Gales Point. Winds and rain have stopped for the moment in Placencia.

from a friend....

Once the eye hit the Turneffe Atoll, it jumped South a bit. I don't know how or why it does that but it just did. That means the eye of the storm is South of Belize City. It was not a direct hit, although the north eye wall is kinda scraping Belize City limits. I think Belize was spared in that the eye landed in uninhabited areas.

Thanks Marty for your excellent reporting! We dodged a bullet on Ambergris Caye. According to my friends in Belize City things are not good there. They and everyone else in the South are in my prayers.

A short update from the Western border: We had some rain - not too much - during the afternoon and now the rain is getting stronger.

Here in Arenal Village - approximately 5 Miles South of Benque Viejo del Carmen we just lost power. There has not been lots of wind but we feel and hear the wind getting stronger now. Now - 5 minutes later - no wind at all but no power
:-)

Still raining in Placencia, windy - not much more than a strong summer storm.
