Belize is a Christian country - not just by nature, but by declaration.
Given that very clearly defined aspect of the country's structure, I think it behoves us to respect, accept and expect certain manifestations of the church countrywide (even if you're like me who strongly prefers the idea of separation of church and state).

I think people will eat dinner tonight. Could there be some way to turn this into a positive kind of thing in future --- maybe we think about that a little ?
Can hotels gift "good friday wine" bottle to each room - given to the guests on Thursday with a note about the rules on Friday? You know, advertise your Easter specials with this offer and a notice about the rules for the day?

I strongly support the Town Council in this matter. This should certainly be a local matter. I think a look at the census would reveal that the catholics make up a minority and those who do not subscribe to the churches make up almost half the population with all the denominations and faiths including, Islam, Hindu, Catholicism, Anglican, Adventists, Witnesses, and the various other Christian denominations make up just over 50% of the population and many do not adhere to the precepts of their own religions. This is an antiquated law and needs to be revisited. A similar law was used in the Cayo to force shops to completely close and they started out saying that was going to happen here so it can not be ignored. If you read the law as posted and choose to follow it to the letter these places, Superbuy, Ritchies etc should all be closed completely which of course is beyond stupid. The law needs to evolve with the changes in the country and maybe calling attention to it will help get that change.

Nothing in what I have read suggest that tourists who have purchased liquor prior to today, and choose to drink it at their hotel is breaking the law. I personally don't have a problem with the rule about selling liquor, I am just concerned about guests who purchased liquor before today, then want to have a beer or a drink in their room or their balcony, etc. Are the police going to lock them up until Tuesday if they are caught with a couple of beers while they are on their verandahs looking at the sea?

Every year, people complain about this and every year, BTB says they will change the law. Its time we hold them to it and the BTIA and Belize Hotel Association should be the engine behind them to do so.

Belize is certainly a Christain country by Constitution. And I respect that. But I'll be honest, I don't respect any laws infringing on personal liberties.I do everything by the ruls because I have to respect the authourities and have no intention of going to jail. But doesn't mean I have to like some laws and I damn sure don't like infringement by government or anyone else on what I want to do if it doesn't infringe on someone eles rights.

The police have been shutting down shops and supermarkets all afternoon...I'm guessing that the midnight rule is going to be a firm one. Does anyone know what is going on?

Good morning. Has anyone heard of how the arrests, if any, were conducted by the police?
I am refering to the hours allowed for serving alcohol.
