Born in Amityville, NY on July 11, 1954 to Alberta Durkin and Marcus Alonzo Hanna III. Jim grew up in Elyria, OH. He attended St. Edward's high school through the 9th grade in Cleveland, OH while living at St. Anthony's Home for Boys on the west side. At 14 yrs. old he ran away from the home to Springfield, Vermont where he lived with the Hennessy family.
In 1974 His son Forest was born to Mary Hennessy. Jim worked for the towns of Weathersfield, Bellows Falls and various construction companies before building his own business. American Construction Company out of Marlborough, N.H. was very successful for Jim. He built the Bear Right Plaza in Concord, The Bedford Village Inn and the Moose Lodge in Springfield, VT among many other local projects. Jim also helped to raise his son and three stepchildren. During this time he had a passion for motorcycles and island life. In 1995 he sold his half of the business to his partner and moved to Belize.
He met Ana Wade in 1995 and married her in 2002. They raised their daughter Daniela together in San Pedro. He started a new construction business there and bought a bar called The Pier Lounge. He built BC's bar, and the Palapa Bar as well as many other homes and structures in that area.
He leaves behind his wife, Ana, son, Forest Hanna (Kathy Stiles), daughter, Daniela Luisa Hanna, stepsons, Juan Mata and Christopher Conant, stepdaughters, Amy Conant and Hilary Conant. Grandchildren, Izabell Hanna, Lily Hanna and Juanito Mata. Sister Robin Slattery (Kevin) and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many friends all over the world. He will be remembered as a free spirited, generous, loving and gentle soul.
A Catholic service was held on Friday April 5, 2013 at the Roman Catholic Church in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. Jim was buried in the San Pedro cemetery.
