The San Pedro Tourist Guide Association (SPTGA) has undertaken great steps to ensure that diving is done in the safest way possible. Below they outline four major accomplishments completed in the month of May 2013.

*A seminar on updating all dive professionals in diving was conducted. The PADI forum was conducted at the Sun Breeze conference room on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Over 75 dive instructors and dive masters from both San Pedro and Caye Caulker attended the event. The forum ensured that dive professionals got all updated materials and procedures when dealing with the safety of diving and training.

*An insurance and accident management seminar was carried out on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Lions Den with dive operators, dive instructors, dive masters and dive staff. Divers Alert Network (DAN) assured that the diving community of San Pedro understands the hazards of diving and how to manage accidents. This training was well attended by over 100 tour guides.

* A meeting and dialogue with the hyperbaric chamber "SSB" was conducted with dive operators, instructors and masters on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the San Pedro Junior College Campus. It was discussed and accepted that the operators would affiliate and ensure that all divers and insured and this will obtain free treatment to all dive personnel. This was a great achievement this benefit had been lost due to lack of communication.

*The SPTGA still continues to head the maintenance of mooring buoys in and outside of our reef system. We have made arrangements and signed contracts with the dive operators who will be responsible for two or three buoys. SPTGA will obtain free materials and the operators will conduct the maintenance.

*The SPTGA has been working extremely hard to ensure that San Pedro be recognized as the safest dive destination in the world. As usual SPTGA gives back to the community. Coming soon "Kids in Action" where 32 lucky school kids will learn to dive and 15 lucky kids will learn the art of fly fishing free of charge.
