The next San Pedro Belize Red Cross Blood Drive is Saturday June 7th 10am-5pm... More details to follow please stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone's hard work, the San Pedro Branch was able to collect 30 pints of blood at the last blood drive. Adding that to the current stock, gives Ambergris Caye for a grand total of 72 pints on reserve. So far 7 pints have been used by 2 different people.

Would love to give back some blood but can not till October.

We should be doing another one in November Inplub.

Below are the details for this Saturday's Blood Drive. Our goal is to get the Ambergris Caye reserve over 100 so please come and donate blood if you can and encourage people to come donate if you can't.

Time: 10:am - 4:pm
Place: Washington University (across from SAGA Humane Society and in front of Pedro's Hotel)

Thanks for your offer Maya House, it is not that simple.

Every time SPBRC does a blood drive it has to be coordinated with Belize Blood services in advance and we fly them out for the day.

They help in screening, blood typing and collection. All donated pints have to be stored at the correct temperature and taken back to the main blood bank in Belize City. Currently we do not have any blood storage facilities on the island.

Are they able to test blood these days? I tried to previously give blood but am allergic to penicillin a they wouldn't take my blood as they couldn't test it for allergens (?) - which in itself is worrying for the receivers but I presume quality of blood is controlled via other tests.

Testing is done by Belize Blood services during the initial screening process Phil.

I tried several places between here and mainland to get blood allergy testing done(forget the name)and it is just not something they currently do here at Doctors, Hospitals or Labs.
