Will ask how the US handles out of control cops, perhaps they have solutions.

You can't put controls on spur of the moment mental lapses. When things like this happen and peoples lives are at risk the punishment should be severe.

Certainly should be severe consequences and I am not making excuses and I am usually part of the solution, but Belize has ignorant angry cops same as anywhere else. The problem here and elsewhere has been to hold them accountable. Ask Eric Garners family. So I am not deflecting, but asking those from other countries how they handle the same.

the tradition in the US was to excuse bad behavior by cops but that is ending. Cell cameras are changing that and bad cops are increasingly being held to the same standards as the rest of us.

Why do we have places open until 4:00 in the morning? Those that do are in the bad news so much! As I read it the cop was "offduty" in uniform and drinking,. Is that right? I would much rather he be home smoking a joint than in a place known for problem drinking.
Obviously we do not have good screening in the hiring process.
There are a few very good police but the bad ones need culled out.
If you can't get rid of them intirely may take away their guns and give them desk jobs.

In Toronto bad cops are being held accountable for the crime they commit. They are being charged and going to court. Some are losing their jobs, going to jail and are being sued by the person the crime was committed on.

Very interesting and important read by dr Gayle. Thin line between police and the bad guys, very thin. And ugly and solutions yrs away.

The section on police violence reminds me of the phrase from years ago, "The only difference between cops and criminals is that the cops can legally carry guns."

For the amount of bad cops there are a lot more good ones. Can you imagine what San Pedro or any other place would be like without police? When you see police in a uniform good or bad it stops a lot of crime and violence.

Sure, what I stated was hyperbole, but this opinion is somewhat universal.
