BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of August 14th - August 20th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny and nice after a threat of bad weather that didn't materialize!

Winds: Light to medium winds 12-15 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:37 am Sunset: 6:16 pm

Moonphase: New Moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Tropical storm Harvey was threatening to visit us this week, but it now seems the threat has dissipated. The fishing before a major storm is usually really good and this week has not proven any different. Our bonefish are feeding well and all bonefish anglers are benefiting from the bite.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit bite continues to be productive as they are around in large numbers. Most of the anglers here this week are targeting tarpon, but each of our permit anglers are getting multiple shots during the day. Once again the first time anglers are often the most successful!

TARPON (Sabalo): Adam M. with The Fieldworkers Club has finished his yearly tagging expedition of tarpon this week and continued the efforts to gain a better understanding of their movements. The tagged fish will hopefully give us the information we need to enhance the protection efforts of this fish we all love to catch. We will look forward to next year! Join us and be part of the science. If interested contact [email protected]. Thank you again for all your efforts, Adam!!

OTHER SPECIES: Needlefish, Barracuda, Snapper, Cobia, Mackerel, Nurse Sharks.

GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange and pink size 6 & 8, Squimp and Mantis shrimp.

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Squimp and crabs in tan and olive.

FOR TARPON - Toads and bunnies, black on black, red on black, tan and olive are all great.

This Week's Summary:

The week was filled with fun, lots of laughs, and great fishing. We are looking forward to next week. Hope to see you here!

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of August 21st - August 27th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny and a bit windy.

Winds: Steady east winds 12-18 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:38 am Sunset: 6:12 pm

Moonphase: First Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Not too many anglers in the lodge with the threat of Harvey looming last week. Everyone that decided not to let the threat change their plans had an excellent week of fishing. There were plenty of bonefish to be had by all. Lucky for us Mother Nature was kind. We hope our friends along the Gulf coast are safe and their lives aren't disrupted too significantly. We are thinking about you guys. Stay Safe!

PERMIT (Palometta): If you enjoy tailing permit and lots of opportunities to catch one of our favorite fish to target then "come on down." The permit bite continues to be incredible with multiple anglers landing permit the same day. Over the last several weeks these fish have been feeding heavily and are seen in large schools. Now is a perfect time to "Get your Permit Game On!!"

TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon bite remains strong. Brian, after catching his permit and bonefish in a thirty-minute time frame targeted tarpon the rest of the morning. He experienced two nice eats but was unable to hook up. Better luck next time getting the Grand Slam. We are also still seeing a lot of migratory fish around with some anglers having success. It takes patience to target and land these big fish, but it is probably one of the coolest things an angler can experience.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, Snapper

GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange and pink size 6 & 8, Squimp and Mantis shrimp

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Squimp and crabs in tan and olive.

FOR TARPON - Toads and bunnies, black on black, red on black, tan and olive are all great.

This Week's Summary:

Thinking about our friends along the Gulf coast and hoping they are okay.

Fish On!

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of Aug. 27th - Sept. 3rd, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny and a bit windy.

Winds: Steady east winds 12-18 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:38 am Sunset: 6:12 pm

Moonphase: First Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Happy anglers and plenty of tailing bonefish. Thirty to fifty bonefish a day have been the stories of the week. The fishery has experienced some ups and downs over the last month with the threat of tropical storms looming, which has created sporadic feeding, but when the bite has turned on, it has been prolific.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit bite continues, and the anglers have opportunities each day, with some large permit landed. A couple of permit over twenty pounds have been brought to the boat this week. The fish do not seem to have a huge preference this week and are eating both baits and fly.

TARPON (Sabalo): This week's weather overall has been good with a few days being super calm. The tarpon bite is staying strong, and we are even finding a few snook around while hunting for tarpon in the mangroves. As the weather cools down, the Snook will start showing themselves more often and will give that angler a chance at the super slam. Fall is on the way!

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, catfish, needlefish, and broad shad.

Here we go again with another storm headed to the US. Stay safe friends! You are in our thoughts every day.

Fish On!

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of Sept. 3rd - Sept. 10th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny.

Winds: Light winds.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:40 am Sunset: 6:01 pm

Moonphase: Full moon on the 6th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Probably one of the best weeks ever for this fishery. Ahead of the hurricane reaching Barbuda and the Dominican the fishing has been out of this world. Storms typically bring good fishing days but a storm of this magnitude coupled with great weather has created a record breaking week.

PERMIT (Palometta): Along with the incredible bone fishing this week, we have had some of the best permit fishing as well. There have been more permit caught this week than any one week in recent history. Seven, "Yes" seven grand slams and a host of single permit landed. Amazing!

TARPON (Sabalo): The Tarpon are eating everything! Chris, one of our first timers to Belize as our guest, managed to jump sixteen tarpon in a single day and landed two. He then landed an eighty pounder the next day. Art spent 2-1/2 hours fighting his tarpon and it turned out to be a one hundred and fifty pounder. The week has been epic!!

OTHER SPECIES: Grouper, barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, needlefish, nurse sharks, Spanish mackerel and stingrays.

GRAND SLAM: Seven Grand SlamsCongrats to all!

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of Sept. 11th - Sept. 17th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny with some showers.

Winds: East 10-15 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:41 am Sunset: 5:53 pm

Moonphase: New moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): After a week like last week it is hard to top, but as usual, the bonefishing remains strong. All of our anglers are catching bonefish when fishing for them. There are so many bonefish around at any given time that even if you are not a seasoned angler, you will be successful. Come join us in the bonefish fun.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit fishing is remaining good with several anglers being successful. Some of our beginning permit anglers have managed to land decent size Permit. Bait and flies are still working well. The typical live bait choices of shrimp and crabs, as well as fly patterns such as the Mantis shrimp, the Orvis Peterson shrimp, and crab patterns, have all created success.

TARPON (Sabalo): The migratory tarpon season is slowing, but the resident tarpon aren't going anywhere! One of our tarpon anglers landed a one hundred fifty pounder! The second tarpon of this size in the last two weeks. Spencer and Nate managed to jump a few tarpon while playing with the little guys in the mangroves. Lots of cool stuff to do in our fishery!

OTHER SPECIES: Grouper, Ladyfish, Mackerel, Snapper.

GRAND SLAM: Unfortunately none were had this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange and pink size 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Squimp and crabs in tan and olive.

FOR TARPON - Toads and bunnies, black on black, red on black, tan and olive are all great.

This Week's Summary:

Thank you to everyone that comes to hang out with us. We really enjoy our new-found friends each week.

Fish On!

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): We are happy to welcome and be part of the continued support that Orvis shows the lodge. Cynthia Harkness, the host of a women's group and Jose Delgado who is hosting groups the next two weeks and all participants who have traveled from different parts of the United States, have been reeling in the bonefish. Lots of double digit days.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several of our lady anglers managed to get their permit game on and catch and release some nice fish. Our guide team put the women on the fish and the remainder of the story consisted of big smiles and a bunch of bragging rights. Way to go ladies!!

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon are everywhere and hungry. Cynthia, the group leader, managed to have a two tarpon day and walked away with tarpon fever. She may never go false albacore fishing again. The migratory tarpon season continues to slow, but the resident tarpon aren't going anywhere; and who knows, may be glad the boys of summer are gone so they can bask in the glory and offer the anglers an awesome tug. Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:43 am Sunset: 5:42 pm

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Thank you to Jose D., the most recent Orvis group host, and all of the other fun anglers that have joined us over the last week. It has been our pleasure to host all of these great fisherman and friendly people. The fishery has also been producing lots of fun with bonefish abounding. No day goes by without a bonefish being landed and a smiling angler being handed the joy of the tug.

PERMIT (Palometta): BJ and his gang got after it and caught everything from Snook to permit. While on the flats searching for the elusive Permit, anglers are enjoying the cool experience of casting to Jacks (the poor man's permit) and Barracuda to keep the rod warm while waiting for the Permit to show up. Not many things are better than catching a permit; but if you haven't experienced the tug of a Cuda or Jack on the fly you need to give it a try. SUPER FUN!!

TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon bite has really been productive over the past several weeks. Anglers are getting multiple shots on the flats and in the lagoon. Be sure to ask Isa or Mariano to give you directions to the secret tarpon hole in the back lagoon or take a trip up North and experience some awesome wading where the reef meets the island. Extremely beautiful place to see!

Sunrise: 5:44 am Sunset: 5:38 pm

Moonphase: Full Moon on the 5th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): An awesome week to be in Belize! To spite the threat of TS Nate, anglers that visited us this week enjoyed great bonefishing and beautiful weather. The low tide has happened when the sun is high which makes it easier to see all those bonefish coming your way. First time bone fisherman and women have all been successful catching that coveted fish

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit were receptive to the fly this week. Anglers landed as many as three in one day, which is a tall order when it comes to Permit fishing. Craig was one of those guys that enjoyed the tug of three fish in a single day with two making it to the boat. Thanks to everyone for being part of this week at the lodge. We look forward to the next time! The fish will be waiting.

TARPON (Sabalo): Once again the Tarpon are around in large numbers. Long Caye, down south, continues to lure guides and anglers in search of larger fish. Michael decided to take his chances the day TS Nate passed by and managed to land three Tarpon. What a beautiful end to his and Katie's honeymoon week!
