PERMIT (Palometta): Permit, the elusive PERMIT!! Juan has spent a lifetime "In Permit Years" like most permit fisherman trying to bring it home, and he finally did. Congratulations to Juan, you deserve it!! Also, congrats to Melissa on her Permit with Captain Jeo! Persistence always pays off!

TARPON (Sabalo): To catch a Tarpon is always a super fun experience, and Melissa felt the tug of a one hundred plus pounder for one and a half hours before it got off at the boat. Oh well, we are going to let them go anywayRight! Jason also landed his first Tarpon to round out his week.

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of May 7th - May 13th, 2018

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny and beautiful week with some overnight rain.

Winds: East, Southeast 10 mph.

Air Temperature: Highs in the mid to high 80's Lows in the top 70's some 80's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 83 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:21 am Sunset: 6:16 pm

Moonphase: New Moon (May 15th).

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The bonefishing, as always, has been excellent again this week. The weather is also cooperating which makes for a great combination and puts many smiles on the anglers faces. First-time saltwater anglers can always find a Bonefish to hook into so they "Like the fish" can also "get hooked."

PERMIT (Palometta): The week of permit fishing has been one of the best we've had in a while. Sometimes, the permit finally gives into the anglers' desires and seem to eat anything. That is what happened this week as new and seasoned anglers alike all felt the permit tug. Larry managed to make it a Grand Slam with his permit catch.

TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon bite was equally spectacular this week, and some of the "Big Boys" of summer are around. Several tarpon over one hundred pounds were hooked, but only one landed. Quite a few under one hundred pounds were landed. Michael, who was taking a break from his regular job of lobster fishing, found himself hooked into a sixty pounder and landed it. Way to go Michael! Tarpon Tony, a longtime guest and friend of the Lodge for over 25 years, once again succeeded in keeping his earned nickname!

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snapper, jacks, triggerfish and ladyfish.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Larry M. on his GRAND SLAM.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Grand Slam Crab, Squimp in size 6&8, Mantis shrimp.

FOR TARPON - Red and white, olive, white, red and black, all black and black and purple toads and bunnies continue to work well.

This Week's Summary:

It was a great week at the lodge with familiar faces in beautiful places. Enjoy our world for a while! Book your trip.

The weather was phenomenal as well and also helped to produce a great week. Come and join us for one of the Orvis Bonanza'syou won't be disappointed.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit continue to be around in large numbers with many of our anglers landing nice fish. David, while fishing with Captain Kristian, made it a Grand Slam after landing his permit. He even had time to come back to the lodge and have lunch! Remember the early bird gets the worm, and David went out on that day at four in the morning to get it done by noon. Nice job David!
