BELIZE FISHING REPORT

APRIL 14, 2019 THROUGH APRIL 21, 2019

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny, Very windy for first half of the week, much lighter winds and better conditions by the end of the week.

Winds: East, 5-15 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:30 am Sunset: 6:10 pm

Moonphase: Waning Gibbous.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were biting well and some larger ones were landed.

PERMIT (Palometta): Nice permit were landed on both fly and spin.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon were hooked on the flats. The big migratory fish are beginning to show up.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Black/red or white Tarpon Toads.

FOR SNOOK - The same flies that worked for tarpon caught snook this week.

This Week's Summary:

A week that started with challenging conditions finished with nice weather and light winds.

APRIL 21, 2019 THROUGH APRIL 28, 2019

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy.

Winds: East, 10-25 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:26 am Sunset: 6:12 pm

Moonphase: Waning Crescent.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were biting well in 2 to 4 feet of water.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit fishing was mixed with the wind being the most significant factor.

TARPON (Sabalo): The calmer days of the week allowed fishing on the open flats for resident tarpon. The big migratory tarpon are now beginning to show up.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Squimp in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Black/Purple or Chartreuse Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

A week of mixed conditions, from windy to calm, from sunny to cloudy. Mike K. landed two Permit on the fly on the same day fishing with Captain Kechu.

APRIL 28, 2019 THROUGH MAY 5, 2019

Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy to cloudy.

Winds: East, 10-25 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:22 am Sunset: 6:14 pm

Moonphase: Waning Crescent.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish were biting well in 2 to 4 feet of water. Wade fishing provided good opportunities on the windy days.

PERMIT (Palometta): Great week for permit fishing despite challenging conditions.

TARPON (Sabalo): Windy conditions kept the Tarpon fishing around the Mangroves and protected coves.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Black/Purple or Chartreuse Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

It was El Pescador's pleasure to host our third Orvis Bonefish Bonanza of 2019 this past week.

Weather Conditions: Cloudy-Partly Cloudy, Hazy.

Winds: East, 15-25 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:17 am Sunset: 6:19 pm

Moonphase: Full.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The lee side of the cayes provided the opportunity to sight cast to some large bonefish.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit fishing was good this week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Several nice Tarpon were landed.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - White Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

Windy weather continued, but guides and anglers made the best of their opportunities. Several nice permit were landed, and Phil and Gilbert hooked 14 tarpon in one-day fishing with Capt. Gordy.

Weather Conditions: Partly Cloudy to Sunny.

Winds: East, 15-25 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:16 am Sunset: 6:21 pm

Moonphase: Full.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Lighter winds provided clear water opportunities to sight cast to larger bonefish in the shallows.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several permit were landed by fly anglers this week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon fishing improved as the week progressed. The action for big migratory fish is in full swing.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

GRAND SLAM: Geff T. fishing with Capt. Cesar.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - Black/Purple or Chartreuse Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

A week that started windy and cloudy turned very lovely at the weekend, providing a lot of angling opportunities. Highlights included a Grand Slam by Geff with Capt. Cesar and a 100+ pound Tarpon by Justin on a day trip with Capt. Vince.

MAY 26, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 2, 2019

Weather Conditions: Partly Cloudy to Sunny.

Winds: East, 5-10 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:15 am Sunset: 6:24 pm

Moonphase: New.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Good weather provided plenty of opportunities. Several exceptionally large fish were landed.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit fishing was good, aided by clear water and light wind.

TARPON (Sabalo): Juvenile tarpon in the Mangroves, resident tarpon on the flats, and migratory tarpon were all available this past week. The migratory tarpon will be around our waters for a few more months.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

GRAND SLAM: Geff T. fishing with Capt. Cesar.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - White or Chartreuse Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

A week of light winds gave plenty of fishing options. On Tuesday, May 28, El Pescador Fishing Director Isa Rodriguez landed a Grand Slam on the fly from the beach and casting dock in front of the lodge.

Weather Conditions: Partly Cloudy to Sunny.

Winds: East, 12-20 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:15 am Sunset: 6:26 pm

Moonphase: Waxing Crescent

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Very good week for numbers of bonefish on the fly including 69 landed by two anglers on a day trip with Capt. Emir.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit were landed on fly and spin.

TARPON (Sabalo): Several nice size tarpon were landed on fly rods.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, snapper, jacks, and barracuda.

GRAND SLAM: Geff T. fishing with Capt. Cesar.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.

FOR TARPON - White or Chartreuse Tarpon Toads.

This Week's Summary:

Windier conditions moved most of the action to the lee of the islands and cayes. El Pescador hosted the fourth Orvis Bonefish Bonanza of 2019.

Winds: East, 12-20 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:16 am Sunset: 6:29 pm

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish provided plenty of action.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit fishing remained good, with some large fish landed.

TARPON (Sabalo): Fishing for the big migratory Tarpon is a great option right now.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, Jacks, and Barracuda.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:20 am Sunset: 6:31 pm

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish action was good.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several large Permit were landed.

TARPON (Sabalo): Calmer winds and more transparent water aided in the quest for big migratory Tarpon.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, Snapper, Jacks, and Barracuda.

FLIES THAT WORKED

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny, calm to start the week and windy at the end.

Winds: East, 5-19 mph.

Air Temperature: High and low in the low 80's.

Sunrise: 5:24 am Sunset: 6:30 pm

Moonphase: Waxing Gibbous.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Good size and numbers of Bonefish landed.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several Permit were landed on the fly.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon were landed on the flats and around the Mangroves.

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, Snapper, Jacks, Ladyfish and Barracuda.

GRAND SLAM: Steph and Stan both got their first-ever Grand Slams. Pete Kutzer landed the second Grand Slam of his visit.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8.

FOR PERMIT - Spawning Shrimp, Tan Crabs in size 6 & 8.
