BWS apologizes for the planned interruptions and low pressures and are asking for conservation of water in Caye Caulker and San Pedro.

===

Belize Water Services congratulates the Belize Tourism Board and the Belize Tourism Industry Association on their excellent marketing strategies, which have resulted in a healthy growth in the occupancy rate, especially in San Pedro and Caye Caulker.

Unfortunately, this Increased occupancy and an early dry season has led to a continued and consistent increase in water demand, which is challenging the capacity of our current treatment plants and storage reservoirs on these two islands. As a result, BWS informs customers in San Pecks and Caye Caulker that the company will commence implementing reduced pressure and planned late night interruptions in order to maintain minimum storage levels to allow supply during peak hours.

In San Pedro, BWS has completed the construction of the additional one million-gallon storage tank and is completing the installation of a new 600,000 gallon-per-day (gpd) Reverse Osmosis Treatment Plant. This plait is expected to be commissioned between March 16 - 20. In Caye Caulker, BWS is finalizing works on an additional 40,000 gpd plant. This is expected to be competed by February 28 and will, along with the current 150,000 gpd plant, meet the higher daily demand being experienced on Caye Caulker.

Once completed, these initiatives will allow full supply of water during the peak demands being experienced on the islands for these extended hick seasons. BWS assures the public that this situation will be resolved well before the upcoming Easter Holidays, when the demand increases even more.

Furthermore, BWS takes this opportunity to ask residents and businesses on the islands, especially the hotels, to conserve water during this period. A little conservation by each will be of great assistance to all.

BWS apologizes for aiy inconvenience these reduced pressures and planned interruptions may cause to our customers in San Pedro and Ca, Caulker.

Low pressure and no water supply in San Pedro Town; BWS reports major plant component failure

A major plant component failure in the Belize Water Services' (BWS) San Pedro branch has affected the island's distribution system. Over the weekend, residents from subdivisions around downtown San Pedro reported low water pressure. As of press time, some residents are still without running water.

The management of BWS branch on the island indicated that the only problem customers should be experiencing is low water pressure. They explained that it is due to the ongoing repairs that are taking place at the water plant. There was no elaboration as to the issue with the plant. In the meantime, water issues are expected to continue until repairs are completed, for which no timeline was provided.
