Oops sorry - I meant to say Carnaval would be the first part of March

OK, I'm not going to worry too much about being painted then, unless I want to be painted. I leave on Mar. 2.

I look forward to really enjoying Carnival time!

Carnival is celebrated differently from place to place. AC is where the painting occurs - mostly on the day before Ash Wed.
In Belize City there is a really elaborate parade - it has wonderful costumes and many bands.

Now, that's what I would like to see, in person.
I have looked at pictures and it's beautiful !

Well, now I'm really confused. Does most of the painting take place on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26 or on Fat Tuesday, Mar. 4.

I don't mind getting painted but I'd really like it to be my idea and I don't want to be wearing any of my favorite clothes at the time.

Aren't there any locals on the board that would know?

Maybe I'm confused...I thought Ash Wednes was 5 Mar? Anyways, had so much fun last year. I checked the event calendar to be sure and it says Carnaval Week starts 26 Feb and ends 4 Mar. The last nite would be the wildest, what I call Fat Tues.
(sorry I'm not a local...just wishfully dreaming )

Ash Wednesday, beginning of Lent is March 5. Fat Tuesday, last day of partying BEFORE Lent is Tuesday, March 4.

Now, what are YOU giving up for Lent? For me, I will be giving up abstinence since we arrive on Thurs. March 6 (Ash Wednesday plus 1)
