The costa maya festival is a localised affair, and is attended in the majority by the local spanish speaking populace-as for a visitor you will probably not even realise it is going on.

Huh? You can not attend if you are not local?
Why would I not understand it if I do not speak Spanish? By the way, you did not even ask if I DO speak Spanish. By the way, how could one not realize what is going on? Just the fact the the island will be that much busier during that time means it will be different than usual. So...even one that does not speak Spanish will notice a difference and perhaps things will be r eally busy and fun during this time in the evenings with the people. That is why I asked if it is a good time to visit.

Strange, it seems a lot of your posts are very negative to people...

Ke -obviously you have a bug somewhere-no the island is not noticeably busier-the costa maya is primarily for locals and they always have a Mexican soap star as the main attraction.Besides this it is considered very expensive to attend-I apologise for not asking if you watch mexican soap operas but for the people who live down here who do not watch daytime soaps(in Spanish)do not go.
They bring a very small funfair from Guatamala/Mexico,and this normally has broken down rides or rides that break down. The one good thing is the local childrens dance groups perform on a couple of nights-but this normally appeals to parents and friends(yes I go and pay every year to watch my friends daughters dance).
All in all this week is not any busier than any other weekend in august-but judging from your tone you will not believe what I write, and you will believe only what you want to believe.
You say my posts are negative perhaps I bring a true balance and for this I will give you an example.A couple of weeks ago myself Ojackie and Islenutt went to a restaurant and ordered food, and a few minutes later another couple from the board sat opposite us,and also ordered. To cut a short story long -our food arrived none of us complained but none of us finished the meal(it was unappetising to say the least) -the other person's husband sent his food back for being,in his opinion, inedible imagine my surprise when a week later I read about this person praising the restaurant for having some of the best food on the island-very odd or welcome to the "twilight zone"

KE, he was just stating that the Costa Maya is not a big enough deal to make your vacation plans around. It is not like going to the superbowl or world series or Disneyland. This is one post that he has not been negative on and he actually took the time to explain what he meant.

Pedro,

Thank you very much for your info on Costa Maya, this was helful. I do appreciate your honesty.
I have been to the Island and always felt everything positive I have read on the forum is accurate. Interesting to hear the restaurant story! It seems people in general often say one thing and do another!!!

How much does it cost to attend Costa Maya?
I had heard from people on the island that usually a famous singer(like Sean Paul) comes...

According to my sources(local spanish speaking only) this year they are to get someone less famous:the hope is for Julio Iglesias jr. -Sean Paul wants way to much money this year.
