What taxi services are available?

Water and land taxi service is available to and from destinations in San Pedro Town, as far north as the river and as far south as Victoria House, the hotel furthest to the south of Ambergris Caye. Most hotels and resorts provide transportation for guests to and from the airstrip and boat docks. Taxi fare is charged according to the number of persons and how far you wanted to be transported. Rates to locations on the island are about US$4 to $5. Water taxis are available to take you to or from San Pedro and North Ambergris Caye, typically for US$5-10, depending on how far north one needs to go. Some hotels offer free water shuttle service for guests.

There are several van taxi drivers in San Pedro now, here are a few of their phone numbers:

There are no regularly scheduled boats or ferries from either Corozal, Chetumal, or Xcalak. Bet there were many a thousand years ago! Only slow sailing boats leave from Corozal bay loaded with fruits and vegetables for sale in San Pedro. The cruise on these boats is roughly 5-6 hours.

In the last 25 years, there hasn’t been a regular service between Chetumal and San Pedro. At least one fellow gave it a shot a couple years ago but the market was just not there... A charter is possible at any time nevertheless.

Pricing would vary, with group size also affecting pricing. A pickup at Chetumal would be even more expensive because of all the immigration paper work that has to be undertaken, etc. Thus the best pick-up point would be Corozal Town.

Boats may clear customs and entry at Belize City, Dangriga, Big Creek, Punta Gorda and San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye. There is no customs officer in San Pedro; boats wishing to enter must pay the cost of transport for the customs officer to and from San Pedro from Belize City.

  1. Is there a ferry from Belize City to St. George Caye? There is a private boat, usually reserved for resort guests only. Depending on how busy the resort is, they can make special arrangements for a day trip and lunch (small private island means we have to plan for enough food!) for a fee. They will need to get in touch with sales to request/arrange this, reservations@belizeislandparadise.com.
