Belize River Valley

Nadia Bood:

Proud to be from the Belize River Valley (BRV). The nine villages that make up the lower Belize River Valley bear names that reflect the logging history of the region – Buttercup, Burrell Boom, Flowers Bank, Scotland Halfmoon, Bermudian Landing, Isabella Bank, Lemonal, Double Head Cabbage, St. Pauls Bank, Willows Bank and Rancho Delores. Key economic activities include small-scale agricultural production, eco-tourism and retail trade, although many residents travel to Belize City for work. The BRV sustains diverse flora and fauna (plants and animals) and the river and its many streams bring silt to create one of the more fertile valleys in Belize. The river is a great asset as it is a main tributary to the sea and, thus, has direct link to the reef. We must support the health of the river to support the health of the reef.
