Pre-School children in San Pedro celebrate Child Stimulation Month

During the Month of March pre-schools across the country observed Child Stimulation Month. In San Pedro, pre-schools organized and participated in several activities. The ABC Pre-school had a Cultural Demonstration Day, on March 24th, 1998. The children were attired in the traditional dress of ethnic groups that live in Belize. They performed cultural dances and food from each ethnic group was prepared for lunch. Some of the groups portrayed by the children were: the Garifuna, Mayan, Mennonite, East Indian and Chinese.

On March 26th, ABC held their annual art exhibition. Children and parents created models of different places in their community. The exercise was to allow parents and children time to interact and to have fun together. Child Stimulation Month activities concluded on Friday afternoon, March 27th, with a parade through the streets of San Pedro Town. Three pre-schools participated in the parade: the San Pedro Pre-school, Little Angels and ABC Pre-school. The children wore colorful and festive hats or masks. They paraded to carnival-type music and teachers and parents carried signs that read: "Through the eyes of a child" - the theme of this year's Child Stimulation Month. Tuki Tuki, the toucan, and Miss ABC Eleena Ayuso were highlights of the parade.

The following is a thank you letter from principal of ABC Wil Alamilla:

ABC Pre-school takes this opportunity to thank the community of San Pedro for their constant support during our Stimulation Month. Without any doubt our Culture Day, art exhibition and parade was a great accomplishment and success for us. We hope you all appreciate our children's efforts and lets continue to support your today and tomorrow, "The Children." Thanks once more for giving us the opportunity to view the world through the eyes of a child.
