Lions install 1998/1999 Board of Directors







Lion's Club Board of Directors

The San Pedro Lion's Club held their 23rd installation ceremony on July 4th at the Lion's Den where 12 new board of directors were installed.

The program got under way after the national anthem was sung and the invocation prayer was given by Lion Wil Alamilla. Lion Beto Marin, master of ceremonies, introduced the invited guests - Lion members from San Estevan and Belize City.

"I am happy to have served the Lions as president and I wish the new president, Ruben, the best in his presidency," said Fred Alamilla, Lion's President, in his welcome address.

In the annual report, the Lion's biggest projects throughout the past year were noted. One of the biggest projects was the building of the classrooms for the R.C. School. The Lion's Club was proud to inform that they helped thirty seven people, medically, with donations and assistance from the Lions Clinic. Lion membership has also increased from forty one members to forty eight since last year.

The new board of directors was installed by Lion Libby Vega, Past District Governor (P.D.G.).

The new members of the board are:

President - Ruben Gonzales 1st Vice President - Severo Guerrero
2nd Vice President - Jose Alamilla
3rd Vice President - Roman Kay
Secretary - Felix Ayuso Jr.
Treasurer - Abel Guerrero Sr.
Tail Twister - Martin Graniel
Lion Tamer - Rosendo Graniel
Director (2yrs) - Alberto Nuñez Sr.
Director (2yrs) - Javier Graniel
Director (1 yr) - Alex Eiley
Director (1 yr) - Manuel Ancona
(Note: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Presidents step up their title each year, eventually taking the title of president and all other officers are elected yearly.)
Special awards were presented to: Fred Alamilla for his exceptional service and devotion as president; Jose Alamilla - Lion of the year; Abel Guerrero - Treasurer Award; Ruben Gonzales - awarded for his loyalty to the Lion's Club; and Tropic Air, a special award for their loyal service and contributions towards the Lion's Club.

Lion Leo Cuellar, P.D.G., was the guest speaker for the event. He urged the San Pedro Lion's Club to work hard, especially through the hard times that they are going through. "Do not procrastinate, start now on whatever plans you may have for the future," said Mr. Cuellar. "It is up to us to keep the Lion spirit alive."

Barbara Alonzo's dance group performed two lively dances and Lion's Queen, Nelda Graniel presented a beautiful cultural dance to entertain the gathering. Mrs. Flora Ancona delivered the vote of thanks and then the ceremony was closed with the singing of the Lion's Song. A dance followed with lots of food, refreshments and musical entertainment by Wil and his band.
