Senorita Carol Aquino

It was a night of glamour, charm and elegance when Carol Aquino won the crown of Reina de la Costa Maya '97. Now she has only a few days left until she passes on her crown to another beautiful and deserving queen.

Miss Aquino took the Reina de la Costa Maya crown on August 19th for the 6th International Sea and Air Festival (now the Costa Maya Festival). Miss Maria de Soccoro Retolaza, Reina de la Costa Maya '96 (Miss Mexico), crowned Miss Aquino the second Reina de la Costa Maya. Miss Aquino won a week's stay at Ramon's Village, which she has already used, diving lessons at Amigos del Mar and elegant black coral jewelry among other things.

Miss Aquino is now twenty years old. She is a graduate from Esdeo High School and is a student at Rafael Landivar University. She is aspiring to become a marketing consultant in international imports. Miss Aquino arrived today, Friday, July 17th in San Pedro, and has joined the other five girls in preparation for the pageant.

The Reina de al Costa Maya is one of the most popular pageants in the country of Belize. The Pageant is one of a kind in the Cental American region because it brings together five beauty queens from the Mundo Maya countries. The five Mundo Maya countries are Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize. The pageant takes place on opening night of the San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival. The festival is a celebration of the culture that our ancestral Maya have passed down to us. These five countries come together in one event which is full of cultural presentations, folkloric dances, colorful costumes, traditional music, live entertainment from each country and great food. The festival kicks off on July 21st and runs through to the 26th.
