The month of September is marked as the month of celebration in Belize. Every year people look forward to the activities that
commemorate the Battle of St. George's Caye and the Independence of Belize.
The people of San Pedro will be happy to know that one of their favorite events, the Miss San Pedro Beauty Pageant, will be held
on September 9th, at 7:30 p.m. Central Park will once again be the venue for this year's pageant.
The four lovely young women vying for the title of Miss San Pedro 1998/99 are: Miss Maribel Acosta - 16, Miss Irenie Gonzalez -
15, Miss Norma Flota -15 and Miss Sarina Kumul - 18.
The contestants will be required to make a cultural presentation and introduce themselves to the audience and judges. The
reigning Miss San Pedro 1997/98, Miss Vanya Vasquez, will perform a dance along with the other four contestants. The swimwear
competition will follow and then the evening gown competition. Each contestant will also participate in a question and answer
session. During intermissions Barbara Alonzo Brown's dance group will provide dancing entertainment.
A celebration dance will be held after the pageant. Information on ticket sales will be available next week.
