  September's Celebrations in San Pedro kick off tonight. The theme for this year is "Historic Past/Glorious Future" and Central Park is the place to be tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the Miss San Pedro Beauty Pageant. The four lovely young women who will be competing in this year's pageant are: Miss Irenie Gonzalez, 15, sponsored by Ramon's Village; Sari Kumul, 18, sponsored by San Pedro Town Board; Norma Flota, 15, sponsored by NOVA; and Maribel Acosta, 16, sponsored by Mash Hardware and Coral Cable Vision. The contestants will be required to present a cultural presentation and introduce themselves to the judges. Miss Vanya Vasquez, Miss San Pedro 1997/98 will perform a dance along with the other four contestants. Swimsuit and evening gown competition will follow as well as a question and answer session. During intermission Barbara Alonzo Brown's dance group will provide dancing entertainment. A victory dance will follow at Central Park at 10:00 p.m. From now until Independence Day on the 21st of September, a series of activities have been planned by the San Pedro Town Board. These include parades, talent nights, educational seminars for students from pre-school to high school as well as games, prizes, and all day jump ups.
