The Miss San Pedro Pageant took place on Wednesday, September 9th, 1998, and Miss Norma Flota was crowned Miss San Pedro 1998-99.

September 9th marked the beginning of the September celebrations for San Pedro with the election of Miss San Pedro. Hundreds gathered at Central Park to cheer for their favorite contestant and to find out who would be the next bearer of the crown.

Master of ceremonies was Mr. Angel Nuñez. The pageant commenced with the presentation of the four contestants in their cultural costumes. The contestants were not judged for their cultural costumes because they were all made through the pageant's committee. Each girl had a stunning blue costume which represented a different creature of the reef. They gracefully walked down the stage and introduced themselves to the audience.

Barbara Alonzo Brown was in charge of providing the dance entertainment for the evening. She and her dance groups delighted the crowd with a variety of dance presentations. In the spirit of the September celebrations the four contestants, along with Vanya Vasquez (Miss San Pedro 1997/98), performed a high-spirited dance.

In the final segment of the pageant, all four contestants gracefully walked on stage in their evening gowns. After chit chatting with Mr. Nuñez and answering the questions prepared for them, the contestants were serenaded by David Aguilar and the Unity Band. Vanya Vasquez gave her farewell speech, thanking the community of San Pedro for all their support.

The final decision was a hard one, but only one lucky lady could win the title of Miss San Pedro. Norma Flota emerged as the winner after winning the hearts of the judges with her elegance, charm and natural beauty. Norma also won the title of Miss Amity and Miss Photogenic. For these titles she won $250 courtesy of Paradise Resort Hotel, and a photo album of the pageant courtesy of Belicolor. Her prize for winning the title was a round trip ticket for two to Miami courtesy of American Airlines.

First runner-up was Maribel Acosta; she won a round trip ticket for two to Corozal courtesy of Maya Island Air and a camera courtesy of Brodies. A consolation prize of $100 was presented to the other two contestants. Norma Flota will be crowned Miss San Pedro on September 21st, kicking off the Independence Day celebrations. The beautifully decorated stage glittered with hundreds of red, white and blue lights made into the Belizean flag; the decorations were done by Dulce Wolfe.
