Face to Face After 47 Years

Imagine not seeing a beloved relative for one year. Now imagine not seeing him for 47 years. The drama and tears of these reunions are only seen in television programs, but one occurred here in San Pedro last week on Wednesday, February 25, 1998.

Angelia Alamilla Forman was able to see face to face and hug her brother Ryan Alamilla after a long absence of 47 years. Mrs. Forman has lived all her life here in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. As a child, and after her mother's death, she was raised by aunts on her mother's side. She was married to Allan Forman, has a family of 6 children and is owner of Coral Beach Hotel and Dive Shop and Tackle Box Bar.

Ryan Alamilla, age 50, left San Pedro at the age of four. When their mother passed away, Ryan was raised by the Jex family. This family along with Ryan moved to England when he was still a young boy and there he grew most of his life.

Friends of the Forman family made the first contacts with Ryan in England and opened up his interest and eagerness to reunite with his sister and other family members. Ryan's arrival to Belize was planned grand style as a special luncheon reunion was given by past Governor-General, Her Excellency, Dame Minita Gordon. A welcome home party was also given by the Forman family on Wednesday night when Ryan was welcomed by the Mayor of San Pedro, His Lordship Alberto Nuñez Sr. Family members and distinguished guests and friends were present at a beach party.

An extremely proud Angelia Forman has been busy boasting and showing her younger brother all about San Pedro. He has also been taken to X'calak, Mexico, where their father Miguel Alamilla Sr. was laid to rest a few years ago. Ryan, on the other hand, has been delighted in meeting sister, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and uncles as well as the many friends of the Alamilla, Forman and Badillo families. (Their mother was Hilda Badillo).

Ryan returned to England, but was so delighted with family and La Isla Bonita that he is planning a family trip next year with wife Linda and two daughters Nikky 15 and Jamie 18.
