Lobster Season Opens

For those lovers of the exquisite taste of lobster, the time to savor that wonderful Belizean delicacy has once again arrived. June 15th marked the opening of the 1999 lobster season. The San Pedro Sun was on site when the fishermen arrived with their daily catch and most of them reported that "the catch is better than last year." Despite the early showers, a large amount of boats went out on this first day of lobster fishing. Mr. George Kumul of Caribeña Producers reported that the total amount of lobster received at the Co-op as of 6:00 p.m. on the first day was 3,140 pounds (more fishermen were still expected). Last year a total of 2,759 pounds of lobster were delivered on the first day.
