On Saturday, January 30th, 1999 the Novelo's Convention Center in SantaElena, Cayo was filled to capacity to witness the first ever RainforestInternational Pageant. Participants from Belize, Bolivia, DominicanRepublic, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama vied for the prestigious title. Thesix contestants adorned the stage in their casual, swimsuit, cultural andformal wear. During the cultural session, Miss Belize Theresita Sosaelegantly depicted the Barrier Reef. After the question and answer session,three semifinalists were chosen: Miss Guatemala, Paula Ayuso: Miss DominicanRepublic, Silvia Navarro: and Miss Panama, Guendoline Stevenson. Afteranother question and answer session, Dominican Republic's Silvia Navarro wasselected Miss Rainforest International. Miss Navarro receives a trip to Houston courtesy of Taca Airlines andother assorted prizes. A grand victory dance in honor of the new queenfollowed.
