Our patriotic celebrations were highlight on September 19th with the election of Miss San Pedro 1997/98. Not even the rain kept San Pedranos from attending this prestigious event and to cheer their favorite contestant. San Pedro's #1 master of ceremonies, Mr. Angel Nuñez accompanied by Ms. Diona Armstrong welcomed on stage a flavour of Belizean culture and heritage displayed by the four beautiful contestants. Janellie Lizama represented the Crystal Skull of Belize, Miss Neley Perez represented Pottery, Miss Sandra Gutierrez represented Gem Stones and Miss Vanya Vasquez represented the Jade Head. Culture was followed by ecstasy when the contestants appeared on stage in their swim wear. To conclude the Miss San Pedro Contest, a flow of elegance decorated the stage when the contestants appeared in their evening gowns. At the end it was 16 year old Vanya Vasquez who emerged as winner. Vanya won the hearts of the judges with elegance, grace and intelligence. Miss Nelay Perez won 1st runner up and Miss Photogenic and Miss Sandra Gutierrez was named Miss Amity. San Pedro Town expresses gratitude to the panel of judges responsible for selecting our New Miss San Pedro 1997/98: Mrs. Jamilla Mohammed, Mrs. Judy Bremekamp Leslie, Mrs. Jean Shaw, Miss Sharon Dominguez and Mrs. Gildardo Cardona.
