Huge fig tree and machinery at Sirpon Sugar Mill
My friend Jenny Wildman and I visited the Sirpon Sugar Mill museum on Sittee River Road yesterday and were delighted by this tree. The sugar mill is wonderful, if one can go to Hopkins via Sittee River Road, it's surely worth a stop. The tree and lots of striking ancient machinery (mill started in 1868!) are in a lovely walkable meadow.
We stayed in a home on Sitte River Rd & rode our bikes to this old mill one day. It was very interesting seeing the history of the sugar production many years ago here in Belize. The whole area around there is quite delightful to explore. The river itself is beautiful to float or fish.
