Blue tang feeding on seagrass
Blue tang (Acanthurus coeruleus) are surgeonfish which along with parrotfish are critical herbivores cropping algae which may otherwise outcompete live coral and seagrass. Both parrotfish and surgeonfish are completely protected in Belize given their important role in maintaining the Mesoamerican reef complex.
