At Fort George, United Fruit Company office on right, 1930's
The photographer is standing by Baron bliss grave (on the left) looking towards custom building (second building). The first building was an office building which had housed "United Fruit Company".
The empty lot on the right looks like the park which had a swing and a seesaw. It was a little bushy park with hibiscus flowers. Ahh but the view towards the sea. Can hear the crashes of the waves. Families use to utilize this area.
Grampa said when he was a boy Fort George was an island. You got to cross a bridge. The military encampment was always at where militia hall was. British West India Regiment original encampment facing the harbour.
I recognize the street and the curve looking from where Baron Bliss Grave is located. This spot used to be an Island used as a FORT! It was reclaimed to become part of New Belize (North Side). The United Fruit Company building of later years was a higher one floor building built on STILTS and a long set of stairs.
