Very blurry photograph from 1910s. A photo of the river mouth it says. This has to be Fore Shore across the river. This side of the river was swampy with little ponds of water. On this picture, on the right side you can see the little road that led to the bulk head called Fort George. Very swampy. There were spots, where two coupled wooden piles had to be driven to touch the plate.

Fort George Area being filled with a Dredge, 1922

The point was the Military Fort - named "Fort George." Later Baron Bliss was buried on that high bluff.

Fort George Island was on the left side of the Belize River Estuary, accommodated in 1803 small Fort George. Later it was a lighthouse station and an area for fishermen. Separated from the mainland by a creek running by, the Jefferson Construction Company in 1922 - 23 joined it to the mainland, reclaimed it, and built the high and low sea walls around it for the sum of $285,000.
