The Corn Dance, performed by Raices Mexicanas- Retornos Belicenos Dance Group of San Joaquin Village
Performed during the opening ceremony of our Hanal Pixan presentation in 2018. In Maya culture, corn is the source of life, physically and spiritually, it is a legend and a tradition, it is alive. The whole plant is usable, as food for humans and animals, from the green or dried plant with its husks and grains. In our Maya culture, corn is used to prepare masa, to cook atole, tamales, tortillas, tamalitos, puddings etc. Its leaves, husks and cobs are also used to make beautiful wreaths and toys.
