Nita Gonzalez and Feita Trejo on the beach in San Pedro, 1972
The girl in red is Nita Matayoshi Gonzalez and the other girl is her friend Feita Trejo. Two beautiful Sanpedranas. Nita is the mother of Jose Luis Zapata.
The last time that "National Geographic" magazine featured Belize in a substantive way was with the January 1972 issue. On page 127 there's a picture of these two youngsters frolicking on the beach. A few years later, it formed the basis for two postage stamps in the International Year of the Child series issued in 1980, the 75¢ and $1 values.
